Always one of my favorites, by far...
the way this song starts is something that would give me shivers even... i remember listening to it in high school under my headphones, thinking the sheer sound of the tuning was so powerful, and it reminded me of something i couldn't quite put a finger on... definately one of the tracks that never lost its luster over time...
and the streams they are running to an ocean that is dry,
and the sands of the ocean are the prophets in the eye
of the sage who has chosen to forfeit all he knows...
but i know...
and you know,
and you know now that some things never change,
in a world,
in a world that seems bound by human pain;
come along,
come along now, it's not too far away,
i know...
and even though the soloing isn't really complex, the slow harmonious style of it, if you will, influenced my own style of soloing...
i have never been one to appreciate guitar solos all that much although i love the guitar as an instrument, definately...
in most cases, to me, it comes across lewdly and inaudibly, where the emphasis is on 'how fast' the soloer can place as many notes together as they can, within the alotted time signature, rather than trying to maintain the integrity of the song, or harmony of the song, or even express themselves, and so it just becomes a kind of 'wanking' thing that just kinda turns me off ...
don't get me wrong though, not all fast, crazy solos are silly to me, but i'll admit, most are... and so cliche... if you've noticed, in the music i write, as a result of my feeling this way, anyways, i refrain from them almost entirely...
-----
this isn't saying i'm better by any stretch, just for the record... just different in this sense... if i ever have the need for it somewhere, i'll let er rip, but for the most part, i just don't if i ain't feelin' it... to each their own, right?
-----
i like the slow way he slides the harmonious soloing guitar throughout the song... it's simple, and beautiful... |
