Gave 7C another listen on the way home last night and heard something familiar at the start of the song 'Luxuria'.
Is the sample used Dead Can Dance's 'Song Of Sophia' (Lisa Gerrard's vocals)?
I swear it's the same... That's the Dead Can Dance song that cemented my respect for Lisa Gerrard's voice and sheer talent. Whilst it's exciting that a Dead Can Dance sample (if this is the case) was used in a Tea Party Song, it's a pity it was on 7C and not a masterpiece like Edges. So obviously TTP (or at least their management) were communicating with Dead Can Dance for rights to use the sample etc! So just humour me amd slip into fantasy land for a minute and imagine a Tea Party/Dead Can dance supershow!? *Drools* - Ohmygod, that would be so awesomely orgasmic!! Dead Can Dance are so incredible and partnered with our astounding Tea Party, it would nearly top the Led Zeppelin Reunion show, LOL!
Jeff mentioned in the Alhambra CD ROM that he was inspired by Lisa's use of the Chinese dulcimer and got one for himself, so I'm thinking it very well be the 'Song Of Sophia' sample used in 'Luxuria'?
Can anyone confirm or deny this? |

Jeff has also recently covered 'I Am Stretched On Your Grave' and i've got a bootleg of TTP doing 'The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove' ...
I gave a copy of a DCD cd to Miss Gep before she left Prax, maybe go steal her Ipod ... 8)
... and on the 'Luxuria' thing, I'm gonna have to go have a listen to that song again and have a closer listen. Although, I struggle to listen to that song all the way through now, just has bad connotations attached to it. |

Yep, that's Song Of Sophia at the beginning. It was discussed back on the old boards, and I think I remember Jeff mentioning it in an interview or something.
I'm surprised you've never heard of DCD, considering their influence on the Tea Party's music! They've done a bunch of DCD covers throughout their career. You should really check them out. They're great. In the radio interview for the Edges of Twilight premier, Jeff specifically said that Dead Can Dance was one of the greatest influence behind the record. If that indicates anything, DCD albums like "Into The Labyrinth" have that same sense of wonder, mystery and authenticity that EOT has.
These are great songs:
